JGP has accumulated significant experience in water supply and sanitation projects, working on various projects in Brazil, Peru, Dominican Republic, Mozambique and São Tome.
Projects in Brazil have included most of the watershed interconnection works implemented by the state of São Paulo in response to critical water shortages affecting the Metropolitan Region of São Paulo (RMSP) with over 23 million inhabitants. This has included projects with total capacity in excess of 20 m3/sec.
We have provided bidding support during concession/PPP tenders to most of the major private water and sanitation concessionaires in Brazil and this has contributed to the award of more than 4 concessions delivering water and sanitation to over 7,5 million inhabitants. We have conducted Environmental and Social Due Diligence on behalf of Lenders and currently act as the Lender E&S consultant monitoring the concessions responsible for more than 60% of the Rio de Janeiro Metropolitan region (see Águas do Rio Concessions).
In Peru we were responsible for structuring E&S aspects of a concession/PPP project that will bring 5 m3/sec from high altitude Andean lakes to the city of Lima, under a mandate with IFC.
In the Dominican Republic we have developed ESIAs for the sanitation infrastructure (sewer collection, treatment plants, marine discharges) of the cities of Boca Chica (125,000 inhabitants) and La Romana (335,000 inhabitants).
Our experience in the water and sanitation sector includes the full range of services, including ESIA and permitting, ESDD and monitoring for Lenders, structuring of E&S aspects of concession/PPP projects, and development and implementation of E&S management plans. We have also developed the Watershed Management Plans required by legislation to control land-use upstream of water supply reservoirs.
