Hydroelectric power has been a key sector for JGP during the past 25 years. We have participated in many of the largest and most challenging projects in Brazil and elsewhere in Latin America and Africa. This experience totals more than 50,000 MW of installed capacity and includes about 80 projects in Brazil (Teles Pires HPP), Peru, Guyana (Amaila Falls HPP), Dominican Republic, Malawi, Mozambique and Sao Tome.
Environmental and Social Impact Assessments (ESIAs) have been developed for over 20 projects. E&S due diligence and monitoring for Lenders has been provided or is ongoing on projects with total capacity over 17,000 MW (see Belo Monte HPP). On many projects we have supported developers in implementing environmental and social management plans and/or in complying with Lender requirements.
Over the years, JGP has developed strong expertise in dealing with the unique challenges of hydroelectric projects in sensitive regions such as the Amazon, including managing impacts on indigenous communities and high-biodiversity ecosystems. The company has a proven track record of ensuring that projects meet the most stringent environmental and social standards, both national and international.
