The Tamoios Export Corridor is a highway system that links São José dos Campos to the coast of Sao Paulo at Caraguatatuba, intercepting the Serra do Mar State Park (Atlantic Rain Forest) and descending from an altitude of 800 masl to the coast in only 22 Km. Plans to expand the port of São Sebastião and heavy seasonal traffic during summer months (tourism), required major capacity expansion works.
Between 2006 and 2020 JGP was responsible for most of the environmental permitting work necessary to duplicate the 90 Km. of the Tamoios Highway (SP-099) as well as two coastal highays totaling 41 Km.and connecting to the São Sebastião port and to the beaches and touristic attractions. Five (05) ESIAs and their corresponding E&S Management Plans were developed by JGP that was also responsible for most of their implementation during construction.
The duplication of the Serra do Mar State Park segment was a major engineering and environmental challenge due to mountainous terrain covered by Atlantic Rain Forest. Over 80% of the 22 Km. reach is composed of tunnels and viaducts, including the longest tunnel in Brazil (about 5 Km.). The coastal highway reaches also intercept mountainous terrain covered by Atlantic Rain Forest bordering the Serra do Mar State Park.
