Chimuara – Nacala 400 kV Transmission Line (Mozambique)

The Chimuara-Nacala 400 kV Transmission Line project is a relevant part of Mozambique´s Central-North Ultra-High-Voltage Transmission System and aimed to strengthen the power supply to the provinces of Zambézia, Nampula, Niassa, and Cabo Delgado, focusing on the Nacala Special Economic Zone, where several investments that demand electricity had been implemented.

The project includes the following components:

  • Construction of a 400 kV double circuit line with approximately 633 Km. connecting new substations in the districts of Mopeia and Meconta;
  • Construction of a 220 kV single circuit line with about 183.5 Km. interconnecting the existing Nampula substation to a new substation in the Nacala-a-Velha village;
  • Expansion of the existing Alto Molócuè substation.

 

JGP was responsible for the Environmental and Social Impact Assessment (ESIA), involving professionals from Brazil, Portugal, Mozambique, and South Africa. A Resettlement Action Plan (RAP) was also developed, involving about 1600 dwellings. The social cadastre process was performed in 2019.
