Ethno-ecological Baseline and Free, Prior Informed Consent (FPIC) Process with Slave-descendant Communities Near Alignment of 500 kV Transmission Line

2013 / 2014

Country: Brazil | States of Alagoas and Pernambuco

Client: IE Garanhuns S.A.

As part of the environmental permitting process of the Luiz Gonzaga – Garanhuns 500 kV Transmission Line (750 Km.), JGP conducted ethno-ecological assessments and evaluation of potential project impacts on two quilombola (slave descendant) communities – Alto de Negras and Cacimbinha – as per requirements of the responsible Federal Agency (Fundação Cultural Palmares).

Additionally, based on the potential impacts identified, JGP developed a comprehensive set of E&S plans that were agreed each community.
