Where trade-offs between environmental and social aspects are necessary, we believe that striking the proper balance is a critical success factor and will apply all the firm´s experience and resources to ensure that it is reached.

Professional development of JGP´s team is an explicit aspect of company policy. Team members are involved in all stages of the project implementation cycle, from preliminary environmental planning and permitting through construction, commissioning and operation. We understand this is essential to develop the ability to predict impacts and to deal with social and environmental issues.

JGP adheres to the IFC Environmental and Social Performance Standards and applies them rigorously to all projects.

History

PAST

JGP Consultoria Ambiental is a Brazilian consulting firm established in 1993 specialized in Social and Environmental Planning and Management. We are a renowned international consultancy with deep understanding of Latin American and African contextual risks.

Since its foundation in 1993, JGP has successfully delivered more than 1500 complex projects from diverse sectors and in over 33 countries with a multitude of social and environmental contexts. This experience nurtures our look to the future as we consider how else could we employ our cumulative expertise in the wider transition to a low-carbon economy.

JGP is internationally recognized for its work in the following types of services:

  • Environmental and social due diligence and monitoring in support of Project Finance and/or M&A transactions;
  • Environmental and Social Feasibility Studies;
  • Design of Integrated ESHS Management Systems for Corporations, Banks and Public Entities;

JGP has become one of the market leaders in providing E&S due diligence and monitoring services on behalf of Lenders in Latin America. We have performed Lender transaction support work for over 180 major projects (mostly infrastructure) throughout the region to a client-base of over 40 financial institutions, including Multilaterals, Development Finance Institutions, Equator Principle Banks, Export Credit Agencies and Investment Funds.

Future

A Glimpse into the Next Decade

Whilst maintaining our consulting and advisory capacity to financial institutions and project developers alike in the infrastructure, agribusiness, extractive industry and real estate sectors, our ambition is to leverage JGP’s knowhow of social and environmental management best practice and diversify our range of services in an ever-growing sustainable finance sector. We believe we are strategically positioned to assist partners, clients, investors, lenders and bond issuers interested in promoting responsible investments throughout Latin America and parts of Africa.

With the rise of new sustainable finance instruments and the development of innovative investment mechanisms such as social bonds, green bonds and sustainable bonds, JGP sees the opportunity to diversify its service offerings. In August 2023, JGP became a Climate Bond Initiative (CBI) Approved Verifier. In addition to this, JGP is developing new partnerships that will enhance its presence / service offer in carbon markets as well. 

Our goal is to assist companies to access green finance and guarantee to financial institutions their investments do not offer any significant social and environmental risks and have the potential of having a lasting positive impact.

Team

None of JGP´s achievements to date would be possible without our highly qualified multidisciplinary team, composed of professionals of diverse experience. Our permanent team includes senior project managers, abiotic and biodiversity expert teams, socioeconomic experts and a strong geoprocessing department. Currently, our permanent team includes over 150 professionals and support staff. This team is complemented by a select group of external senior consultants, continuously involved in company projects.

Our diversified project portfolio offers equally diverse opportunities to our team. JGP promotes this in a structured way, such that our experts are engaged in all phases of project cycles, from initial planning through project impact assessment and permitting, development of environmental and social management plans and monitoring programs, following with implementation during project construction, commissioning and management during project operation phase. We believe that hands-on experience with implementation of projects enhances our capacity to identify risks and predict impacts and to design impact mitigation strategies that are results oriented, practical and cost effective.
