|Corporate Social and Environmental Strategy|
The strategic importance of social and environmental aspects of projects and businesses is increasingly recognized by clients and other stakeholders. JGP services are frequently retained on a strategic advisory role, both in the context of major project implementation planning and of ongoing business everyday practice. JGP has assisted a wide variety of clients on strategies to enhance environmental and social performance and to reduce reputational risks.
Sustainability services include Social and Environmental Reporting. JGP has assisted clients in preparation of environmental and social responsibility annual reports with appropriate focus on stakeholder needs.
Strategic Environmental Assessment
Strategic Environmental Assessments (SEA) are required in the context of multi-project investment programs where individual project timings are different and cumulative social and environmental impacts cannot be properly identified and assessed in the absence of a comprehensive approach.
In spite of being a relatively new project planning tool, SEA is being required by environmental authorities and Multilateral Financial Institutions on a growing number of projects.
JGP has been involved with various types of SEA. On a major project in the State of Mato Grosso do Sul, cumulative effects of development of iron ore mines and associated steel complexes were assessed. On a project which involves a sequence of ten (10) hydroelectric plants along the same river, JGP concluded an Integrated Environmental Assessment on a watershed-wide basis. On several major highway projects, JGP has been involved with induced development modeling and assessment of associated regional environmental impacts.
Corporate Social Responsibility
Corporate Social Responsibility is increasingly a central aspect of corporate strategy. Engagement with host communities is essential on most projects and businesses, particularly in underdeveloped regions where public services are deficient and development opportunities are scarce.
Due to its frequent involvement with projects in remote and underdeveloped regions in Brazil and elsewhere in South America, JGP has accumulated significant experience on planning and implementation of social responsibility projects and community development programs and in assisting clients on the development of strategies of engagement with host communities and stakeholders in general.
