JGP has been continuously involved with industrial projects since the firm was established, providing a wide variety of services.
Permitting experience includes preparation of Environmental and Social Impact Assessments - ESIA (see Services - Impact Assessment and Permitting) on more than 20 diversified projects throughout Brazil.
Site selection studies with focus
on environmental and social issues have been developed for a wide variety of industrial corporations and have included multi-region studies for a petrochemical plant, a car parts manufacturing plant and a phosphate production plant, among others.
A Strategic Environmental Assessment was concluded on a major steel complex planned to include pellet plants, direct reduction plants, pig iron and steel slab plants and a thermal power generation facility. This complex would have final production capacity of 4 million tpy of pig iron and steel slabs and would require investments in excess of US$ 4 billion.
Environmental audits and/or legal
compliance audits have been developed on a wide variety of industrial
facilities, either as part of environmental and social due diligence
assessments to meet Multilateral Financial Institution or Equator
Principle requirements, or in the context of buyer / seller
transactions. This kind of auditing has been conducted on a zinc
refinery, a pulp and paper mill, a car assembly plant, a milk and dairy product plant, 15 sugar
and ethanol plants, 3 vegetable oil plants, about 30 soybean industrial
warehouses and over 40 slaughterhouses. In many cases, these audits
were pursuant to ISO 14.001 certification processes.
Industrial sector experience also includes development and assistance with implementation of integrated Environmental, Social and Health and Safety Management Systems (ESHS-MS) for several large corporations. These have been developed to meet Multilateral Financial Institution requirements and many have been certified (ISO 14001, ISO 9001, ISO 22000, OHSAS 18001 and SA 8000). Major references in management system development include some of the largest players in the agribusiness sector in Brazil (soy, cattle and beef, sugar and ethanol), energy distribution concessionaires, energy generation companies, mining companies, oil and gas companies, and several other industrial corporations.
Environmental liability assessment of brownfield sites has been conducted on a broad variety of areas in the states of São Paulo, Rio de Janeiro, Para and Mato Grosso. Frequently JGP’s services have been retained to assess third party liability assessments and/or to audit ongoing remediation programs.
